Our History

In early 1978 three young couples began a new Assembly of God Church in Vergennes, Vermont. All three couples moved from Arlington, Va. They asked their youth pastor, Rev. Dennis Marquardt, to join them. The Northern New England District Council of the Assemblies of God had targeted the area for a new church plant, so in cooperation with the District these three couples, Youth Pastor Dennis Marquardt, his wife Bevie Jo, and their two-year old daughter Christel moved to this small city in the Champlain Valley with the goal of building a new church. The city of Vergennes welcomed the new small group of believers and the Church was born on August 28, 1978.

God blessed those who began the church and has continued to do so through the years. There are several hundred people who now call this their home church. The Church is located on 10 acres of property on a major highway at the intersection of several surrounding communities. We have experienced three building programs through the years, finishing the third phase in the Fall of 2001.

In 2002, our Senior Pastor Rev. Dennis Marquardt was elected to serve as the district superintendent of the Northern New England District of the Assemblies of God. Shortly afterward, Rev. Art Adams was elected to serve as the Senior Pastor of our congregation.

Our burgeoning youth ministry is led by our Youth Pastor, Rev. Casey Higgins. Pastor Casey, his wife Sherry, and their daughter Dara, now call Vergennes home. In the summer of 2006, Rev. Joe Mills, along with his wife Kim, and their daughter Emily, joined our staff. They will devote much of their time to ministering to the very young.

Rev. Adams and his wife Celeste were one of the original families that pioneered this church so many years ago ... our church continues to be blessed by God's gift of leadership. God is still blessing the church after all these years as we continue to see God's work in our church and community. The faith of a few has blossomed into a great congregation that has seen many many souls find Christ as their Lord and Savior! The small group of families who pioneered the church had a theme verse from Zech. 4:10: "Who despises the day of small things?" God has been gracious and the small work has blossomed into a full-fledged body of believers reaching the surrounding communities for Christ!
